4.19. Analog Front-End API

foxBMS 2 supports various AFE from different manufacturers as shown in Supported Analog Front-Ends. This is achieved by drivers that implement the Analog Front-End API (AFE API).

This document describes how the AFE API works.

An example how to implement a new AFE API compatible driver is shown in How to Implement an Analog Front-End Driver.

4.19.1. Configuration

The AFE is configured through the conf/bms/bms.json described in BMS Application. As of now it is only possible to configure one AFE implementation. The configuration is specified as e.g., in Listing 4.6 for the LTC6813-1.

Listing 4.6 snippet from conf/bms/bms.json specifying the AFE API
1 {
2     "bms-slave": {
3         "analog-front-end": {
4             "manufacturer": "ltc",
5             "ic": "6813-1"
6         }
7     }
8 }

The key manufacturer describes the AFE manufacturer. The key ic describes the exact monitoring IC that implements the API.
